San Juan is a city of dichotomies — Spanish and English, Puerto Rican and American, Ancient and Modern. the city’s Condado, Ocean Park and Isla Verde sections of town are 100% modern glitz and glamour. Comparable to Miami Beach and Las Vegas, these regions are home to the high-rise hotels, beaches and casinos prized by tourists from around the world.

The beach of San Juan takes a pride in being the longest beach in Spain and is located about seven miles northeast of downtown. Directed toward the east, has a sandy strip near one hundred feet wide and a total of 6,200 meters of fine sand, divided between the municipalities of Alicante and Campello. Even if they are physically the same beach, typically name “Playa de San Juan” applies to the part of the beach located in the municipality of Alicante (2,900 m) and ‘ beach Muchavista “(the remaining 3,300 m) to the part of the beach in the town of Campello. Although traditionally been called “Playa de San Juan” the whole strip of sand (the name comes from the town of San Juan de Alicante , located two kilometers inland over the stretch of beach belonging to Campello ), although municipality of San Juan ends a few thousand meters from the beach. In fact, when Campello was segregated from Alicante was offered to San Juan to annex this part of the coast, but not being productive agriculturally speaking did not show any interest in it. In the 1940′s did the artificial name “Muchavista beach’ to denote the part of the beach located in term of Campello.

Playa de San Juan is also the name of the neighborhood of the city of Alicante built from the beach. It is located on the outskirts of the city, bounded on the south by the Cape of Huerta de Alicante, on the west by the Albufereta, north to the town of Campello, and east by the Mediterranean Sea. This is a residential area with several hotels and a golf course where in summer the population multiplies, mainly due to being a place of second homes in Alicante many as the rest of the year living in central Madrid as well, in general, of people inside the province or the rest of Spain .
