Alicante has many places to visit yet the most popular archaeological sites there follows as:

•    Castle of Santa Barbara:
It is located on the top of Mount Benacantil at height of about 166 meters and it is one of the largest medieval fortresses as found in Spain. It was constructed in the ninth century by Muslims. It provides an amazing view of town as well as harbour. If you feel fit, there you can walk from Plaza de Carmen. In case there you can use an elevator in the core of Mount Benacantil itself. Or one can reach castle on car however, there, remains scarcity of space there. The elevator runs from the ground level near the main road of Avenue de Juan Bautista Lafora and stops at two levels in the castle. The easiest route is to follow Postiguet beach to the footbridge, then cross the road and pick your way west along the pavement until you see the sign for the castle and the tunnel entrance. For entry into the castle it is absolutely free. For reaching the castle from ground floor costs 2.40 euro.

•    Archaeological Museum of Alicante:
Founded in 1932, the museum has the avant-garde design and it employs and uses the different ultra modern audiovisual techniques, having about more than about 80,000 pieces as discovered into and at the various archaeological sites. It shows the educational movies about the history of Alicante from about the Stone Age, through Iberian and Roman eras, to the medieval times. The museum is situated at the Plaza del Doctor Gómez Ulla.

•    Gravina Museum of Fine Arts: Located at the old town it is a fine arts museum. And takes some very probable artworks by Spanish artist which is been exhibited around over three floors. If has any time can watch the video presentation ‘Black and White’ on historic Alicante.

•    The “old town” of Alicante: It is about a triangular area that is surrounded with the Rambla de Méndez Núnez, the Explanada de Espanya, and Mount Benacantil. It is quite a tourist friendly spot and there the narrow and old streets make it a wonderful place to wonder around and about the place. Here you will get the town hall, cathedral, an old covent, and many other museums. The most famous contemporary art museum has been closed since June 2010 as well for renovation.
